a long-ish burn off the christmas excess ride was called for today, so with the prospect of a road ride in the cold temperatures @charlotteTCR and i tried out the "toe warmers" that we had bought. "simply peel off the backing and stick them to your socks and they warm up and stay hot for up to 5 hours" it claimed on the packet. there was even a warning not to stick them directly on your skin to avoid burns! well what a load of rubbish, they didn't get warm, they did stay the same temperature for 5 hours though, i.e. exactly the same non hot one!. i had two pairs of socks, one merino and one thermal and over shoes on and still couldn't feel my feet after about 1.5 hours, so the search continues.
we pedalled to Alcester and had a coffee, it was great to be out in the sunshine and yesterday's winds had eased considerably which made it infinitely more pleasant. we played in the flood water and even did some super market shopping on the way back to top off a great morning in the saddle
