it was a proper mid summer ride tonight, not autumnal at all like the last one, sun, insects and farmers harvesting the fields and i almost got taken out by a maniac pheasant!. icknield street is an old Roman road that runs through my local area, a lovely undulating (but straight as you'd expect) lane, very narrow in places and at one end, as pictures ramps up into a very steep bottom gear struggle, it's not too bad at this time of year but in the winter when the fields either side empty into the lane it's treacherous, right now it's just a sweaty struggle. and one thing to remember, when riding on touring tyres, watch out when riding off road, especially when you forget you haven't got wide knobblies on is that there is very little grip in muddy parts as i found out when the back stepped out at speed, managed to hold it though but i was a sphincter tightening moment!
