the Ice and a slice ride

more over night rain meant that it was probably ok to head out on the skinny tyred bikes. we headed for Belbroughton hoping that the post office cafe was open. I worked out a route that i hoped was quite from traffic but not quiet enough that the snow and ice might still be lingering. For the most part this was a success and even the cafe being closed wasn't too disappointing as the weather was nice and extending the ride to another cafe was greeted with enthusiasm. However plans needed to be changed again as there was a deep flood on the route near Fairfield and neither of us fancied getting our feet wet. The penalty for changing direction was that there was a lot more up hill to do, we used a cheeky footpath/cow bridge over the M5 motorway and that lead to a lane next to Waseley. This was, as mentioned before, too little used for all the ice to have cleared and we both had sphincter tightening moments as we rolled onto ice covered roads on 25mm slick tyres! As a reward for surviving we devoured Carrot & Coffee and Walnut slices whilst watching the last of the ice melt from inside the cafe
