That day

it seems that every year a day dawns that heralds proper Spring, a day with sunshine, light winds and temperatures in double figures. Today was That day. the days that follow may descend back into winter conditions but a precedent has been set, even if it snows next weekend (like it did last year!) it's now a downhill run to the glory of summer.
Today was That day, waterproof socks, thermals and under helmet buffs were left at home, by mid morning it was at least 12 degrees. The mud that last week had found us grumbling and cursing was now a reason for giggling as it sucked our wheels, clogged drive train and splattered up backs and into faces. Because it was That day, the mud dried in the sun and and sweat running into eyes became an issue. On That day I didn't complain about cold feet, in fact until @teeceboy brought it up i didn't think about feet at all which is the first time for about 4 months.
Its always good to introduce someone to your trails and on That day Jonnie joined us, He's ridden at trail centres before but never on natural off piste trails. I have to say I was seriously impressed with his riding, he's a veteran of 75 mile road rides but MTBing through flat fields of axle deep clay can break the fittest of riders but Jonnie just got on with it with determination and he didn't baulk once at any of the technical or fast descents. one switch back caught him out but he got straight back on and carried on. Maybe it was the effect of That day or we all were influenced by an overdose of UV light but the ride ended up as one of those that you never want to end, but end it had to but not before we visited the pub and sat in the beer garden picking dried mud off our legs and hoping for more of the same next ride.
That day has arrive, now I'm looking forward to the Next day and more of the same
