i think this time of year is my favourite for riding. It's cool but still warm enough to wear a jersey and shorts, insects are fewer, the ground is still hard, the trails are empty of people and the sunsets can be spectacular!
I've had a few people ask how I take this kind of photograph, well, it involves a compact camera on a flexible tripod using the self timer function. Unfortunately my camera has only two timer settings, 2 and 10 seconds, this means i spend a lot of the shoot sprinting back to the bike to be able to get on and look natural! i think i use more energy running than riding. there's a minimal amount of post production (in this case a little touch of HDR)
the only trouble with early autumn is that you need lights, especially in the woods and i didn't have mine with me on this ride, so safety thoughts forced me home before it got too dark. Lights next time and a longer ride beckons
