i built up the Trek 69er SS, it took about a month, using old parts, parts bought for next to nothing and patience, todays ride was just to test everything was working, last time i rode a singlespeed it was with a 32:18 which is fine on a 29er when it's dry and the trails are fast flowing, in winter however when there is thick mud and the trails are replaced by bog it's a chore and my old body can't take it, so i fitted a lovelt surly wide base cassette cog with 19T. it seemed to go well, i tried it up the longest tarmac climb and it was tolerable and then hit the off road and it was a lot better than i expected. nothing fell off but i might drop the height of the bars abit to aid the bar wrangling when climbing out of the saddle
