the snowmageddon ride

snow finally came to the NWAlps, and when it came it came with a big "Whump!!" it had been forecast all week for the early hours of Friday but Friday dawned with just a light smattering which lulled everyone into a false sense of security, then by 9 o'clock chaos reigned as over 20cm fell locally. Happily it also meant we have snow to play in at the weekend! the fresh snow was very grippy and apart from horrendous understeer it was easy to ride in on the roads. Offroad though the deepness and drifting made it very hard work to get any where, it felt like you were pushing a gear 10 times bigger than normal....downhill, just to keep moving! I got some incredulous looks from people out walking, I was clearly mad. it was great fun to plough through virgin snow though. I did lose my bearings at one point in the woods as everything looked so different. The ground underneath the snow wasn't frozen though so it was pot luck whether you encountered a deep bog and lost all momentum, certainly entertaining but a lot of effort. this was only a quick ride as i had an afternoon prior engagement but as a taster for tomorrows ride it was great fun
ride 5
